To my Nuggets fans,
Wow! The shock of getting traded is starting to wear off but it’s still hard to believe I won’t be playing in Denver anymore. When I arrived from New York six years ago, I never thought it would be this hard to leave. I was an East Coast guy who had never lived further west than Toronto. But I fell in love with Denver in large part because of the way you all embraced me. My daughters were raised there. I experienced a lot of success both individually and as a team. In short, Denver became my home.
Because of that, I remain committed to the community projects I started in Denver. I will continue to host the VOA Thanksgiving at Jacksons Hole and will monitor the Marcus’ Mentors program. In addition, I will continue to build a reading room at Cope Boys and Girls Club.
I had some great times in Denver. I’ll never forget standing on the court at the Pepsi Center when we beat the Kings to end the nine-year playoff drought. It was so loud I could barely hear myself thinking. Or how about the noise level in that first playoff game against Minnesota? You all practically willed us to win. I’ll also never forget the ovation you gave me when David Stern presented me with the Defensive Player of the Year trophy in 2007. I still get goose bumps when I think about it.
The NBA is a business and it’s time to start a new chapter in my life in Los Angeles. I look forward to doing great things with the Clippers. But I want you all to know that I will always look back fondly on my time in Denver and won’t forget all you great fans. You always showed up even if it was snowing like crazy or the game started at almost 9 pm. All of your support over the last six years has meant a great deal to my family and me.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
See you on March 14 and April 4!
Marcus Camby
